@found.film.binder (2019)

A documentary project about my discovery of a stranger’s personal photo archive. I scanned hundreds of 35mm film negatives from a box I found in a second hand store to uncover the story of a young woman’s life from 1993-2002. I kept an Instagram page (@found.film.binder) updated with the photos I was scanning and tried to thread a narrative between them. I was eventually able to track down the original owner based on clues in her photos, and worked with her on a documentary project about the archive and my act of narrativizing it.

The Instagram page is no more, but a surviving document of the project is a documentary proposal I made for a documentary film course I was taking at the time, which tells the story of @found.film.binder.

My professor invited me back to her class a year later to present the project, with an epilogue explaining how it ended.
